The BCA: A watchdog group serving the interests of Beaconsfielders.
The Beaconsfield Citizens Association (BCA) is a watchdog organization and a volunteer non-profit citizen’s advocacy group. BCA members deeply care about helping improve the quality of life in the community in the most cost effective way. The BCA advocates continued open communications between the citizens and the Council, responsible municipal management, financial stability and fiscal responsibility. One of BCA’s main goals is to keep Beaconsfielders informed of what’s happening in their community. Several members of the BCA Executive Committee regularly attend every Beaconsfield City Council meeting. The BCA has several hundred registered members, including over 100 voting members. Meetings take place on the second Thursday of every month at the Beaconsfield Recreation Centre. Membership is open to all Beaconsfielders.
The association gained prominence as a result of the citizens’ revolt in response to the exorbitant property tax increases of January 2006. During that period the BCA sponsored a major town hall meeting which drew over 600 irate taxpayers and the petition against the tax hikes which contained over 1500 signatures. Shortly thereafter, the BCA organized a question and answer meeting with local MNA Geoffrey Kelley. In 2007, the association organized a “Meet the Candidates” night for the Jacques Cartier riding during the last provincial elections.
